SPML – Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening

SPML Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Tendon Release. I taught the Anat Baniel Method™ practitioners and the Feldenkrais™ community about this method to enhance our work with children with CP.

Since 2003, I began sending my toddlers and children to Dr. Paul Jordan and Dr. Roy Nuzzo for relief and improvement with all levels of Cerebral Palsy. Dr. Nuzzo’s minimally invasive method for improving flexibility and balance in children with CP, coupled with Dr. Jordan’s genius ideas for bracing kept me continuing to refer to them.

Currently, Dr. Jordan is seeing children virtually as he is semi-retired. You can reach him at: Drjordan365@gmail.com.

Dr. Nuzzo, the inventor of SPML is semi-retired and now passing the baton to Dr. Rieger at his office in Summit, New Jersey. Please contact Enza Smith: 973-306-9388, or Rob Smith: 973-306-9964. Patients needing In-network SPML, or Medicaid coverage, contact the office of Dr. Andrew Price. He is a brilliant pediatric orthopedic surgeon performing SPML at NYU Langone, in New York City. To reach him, call Channie: 212-598-2391.

Dr. Nuzzo invited me several times to the operating theater to watch the procedure being done. I have a deeper understanding of the technical aspects of the procedure, which has helped me devise more precise therapeutic activities.

In 2003, I introduced this technique to my mentor Marcy Lindheimer, Senior Trainer of the Anat Baniel Method™. Marcy continues to see children virtually, marcylindheimer1@mac.com.

Amy Celento, another ABM™ practitioner (amy@brainbodyvitality.com), and I collaborate with the children we see immediately after SPML surgery (nancy@nancypt4kids.com). We are both located in New Jersey close to Summit. Children see us both depending on scheduling. We bring necessary and slightly different skill sets to the children. By having intensive ABM/PT lessons right after SPML, children learn transitional movements sometimes for the first time. It may be the first time they learn to roll, crawl, walk or achieve other gross motor milestones.

Nancy can help get out-of-network insurance reimbursement. If a family speaks Italian, Spanish, French or German, or Nancy is able to communicate with the children.
If you are only in Brooklyn, or NYC you can reach out to Sharon Oliensis at: sharonolien@earthlink.net. or for homecare in NYC, Verena Kurz, 347-523-0518.
